Fresh Media Works The Interview Table

Nobody wants to take your meeting. Everybody's happy to talk when the subject is them.

In March 2005 I got backstage at a seminar with Colin Powell, Zig Ziglar, Steve Forbes, George Foreman and Joe Montana. I had a local show about art fairs and a press pass I printed myself. Nobody ever asked how many listeners I had. Twenty-one years later, they still don't.

What this isn't

  • Starting a podcast. You're not building a media company.
  • Content marketing. Nobody's asking you to post every week forever.
  • Audience building. If you never get a subscriber, this still works.

It's one thing: a reason for the person who's been ignoring you to say yes.

The 10-Guest Sprint

Sixty days. You end up sitting across from ten people who could change your business, with a real show behind you and none of the work of building one.

Claim your seat

Five seats. I produce three episodes for everyone who says yes, so five is genuinely what I can do.

My end of it. If you don't have your first guest booked within thirty days of our positioning session, I keep working with you until you do. Your risk isn't the money. Your risk is buying something and never using it, and I'm taking that off the table.

Who's asking

I've been podcasting since 2004, which makes me one of the original podcasters. Lone Star Gridiron was the first sports podcast ever recorded. I've spent twenty-one years testing doors everybody assumes are locked.
